At the end of this short course, the student should be able to:
- Apply the multiple and combination coding rules of ICD-10
- Describe the coding rule in coding of minor versus more significant diagnoses
- Illustrate the translation of uncertain/query diagnosis/condition into ICD-10 codes
- Apply the intermediate ICD-10 rules and conventions in coding of post procedural disorders and complications
- Apply the intermediate ICD-10 coding rules, conventions and guidelines when coding for:
o HIV/AIDS
o Neoplasms and morphology of neoplasms
o Connective tissue and musculoskeletal disorders
o Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Puerperium
o Disorders in the neonatal period
o Injuries, poisoning and the external causes of injury
- Apply the South African morbidity coding standards when translating medical terminology into ICD-10 codes.
